Scottish Rite for Children Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center

Background

Based in Dallas, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is a world-renowned leader in the treatment of orthopedic conditions such as scoliosis, clubfoot, hand differences, hip disorders, sports injuries and fractures, as well as certain related arthritic and neurological disorders and learning disorders.

Challenge

Having operated from a single hospital location in Dallas since 1921, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children identified the need for a second location to meet the increasing need for patient care in the rapidly growing area of North Texas.

Solution

Texas Scottish Rite partnered with Hammes to assist with site selection and to serve as owner's representative for its new orthopedic and sports medicine center. The new site is located in Frisco, just north of Dallas, visible from the Dallas North Tollway with views of Lake Lewisville. The new five-story, 345,000-SF campus has a footprint of approximately 10 acres. In order to accommodate flexibility for future expansion, the facility includes one and a half floors of unused space.

As a key objective of the new facility was to provide a welcoming environment focused on movement and recovery, Hammes worked closely with the architect throughout the design and planning phase of the project. The state-of-the-art facility includes imaging, operating rooms, an infusion lab, a movement science lab for sports-specific training and testing to focus on sports injury or general orthopedic rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapy services, a conference center, and outdoor amenities including playing fields, a walking and running trail, and a playground park for patients and the community.
