Founded in Milwaukee in 1991 with roots in commercial real estate development, Hammes has grown into a national real estate consulting, development, investment, and management firm. Over the past three and a half decades, Hammes has partnered with healthcare systems, professional sports organizations, universities, and public and private entities across the country to deliver innovative real estate strategies and solutions.
Hammes’ early work included several large-scale master planning and development projects, including major sports facilities such as the Kohl Center at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Ford Field for the Detroit Lions, MetLife Stadium for the New York Giants and Jets, and the expansion of Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The firm’s defining focus, however, became healthcare.

In 1993, Hammes Healthcare was established to provide specialized healthcare real estate consulting and project management at a time when hospitals and health systems were rapidly expanding ambulatory networks and needed a partner that understood the strategic, operational, financial, and facility implications of growth.
One of Hammes’ foundational partnerships was with Aurora Health Care, now part of Advocate Health. Together, Hammes and Aurora planned and executed what was then the largest single-system ambulatory network expansion in the country. Over a 17-year partnership, Hammes delivered 125 outpatient facilities and 10 hospital projects with Aurora.
That spirit of partnership has guided our evolution ever since.
When health systems sought to preserve capital for clinical and operational priorities, Hammes responded by offering third-party capital solutions aligned with providers’ strategic goals. In 2012, Hammes Partners was established as a private investment platform. Over the next decade, Hammes Partners raised more than $2 billion across four institutional investment vehicles.
More recently, Hammes launched an Operational Readiness service line to help healthcare clients prepare not only to open new facilities, but to operate them safely and efficiently from day one. We also introduced a healthcare-focused real estate and retail analytics platform, Hammes Precision®, to support data-driven decisions about market strategy and site selection.
As healthcare continues to transform, Hammes will continue to evolve alongside it, focused on helping providers execute growth strategies with speed, discipline, and efficiency.

Let's discuss your project and how we can help drive success for your healthcare system.
Hammes’ healthcare specialization began in 1993, when hospitals and health systems were expanding ambulatory networks and needed real estate expertise informed by strategy, operations, finance, and project delivery. That foundation continues to shape Hammes’ work today. The firm approaches real estate as an organizational decision, not simply a building assignment, and connects planning, project delivery, investment, leasing, and property management when those capabilities support the client’s goals.
Hammes has expanded from healthcare real estate consulting and project management to include real estate and market strategy, facility planning, program and project management, operational readiness, development, investment, leasing, and property management. These capabilities allow hospitals, health systems, academic medical centers, and physician groups to engage Hammes at one stage of an initiative or across the full real estate lifecycle.
A vertically integrated platform gives healthcare leaders access to coordinated capabilities across strategy, planning, project delivery, development, investment, leasing, and property management. It also gives Hammes a broader perspective on how early decisions affect capital requirements, project execution, ownership, operations, and long-term asset performance.
Hammes has worked with community hospitals, regional and multistate health systems, academic medical centers, physician groups, and other healthcare providers. Its experience includes acute-care hospitals, replacement hospitals, ambulatory care centers, medical office buildings, specialty facilities, research environments, laboratories, and other healthcare real estate settings.
Major healthcare real estate decisions can influence capital allocation, patient access, clinical operations, physician strategy, and market position for decades. Hammes’ 35-year history reflects experience across changing market conditions, long-term client relationships, and multiple stages of the real estate lifecycle. For healthcare executives, that history provides context for the firm’s judgment, continuity, and ability to move from strategy through execution.
