Baptist Memorial Hospital — North Mississippi, part of Baptist Memorial Health Care, is an acute-care facility serving the northern third of Mississippi.
Baptist Memorial Hospital determined the need for a larger facility to provide greater access to care and expanded services to serve the growing population of Oxford and Lafayette Counties. The current hospital was landlocked with no room to expand and was operating in an aging facility.
Hammes was engaged to provide the full suite of project management services for the Baptist Memorial replacement hospital. Building a new facility from the ground up — rather than attempting to renovate the existing facility — was determined to be the best course of action given Baptist Memorial's goals and budget. As project manager, Hammes helped Baptist Memorial select a new, greenfield site adjacent to the existing hospital. The larger site required a new four-lane road to access the campus, which Hammes assisted with by working with county officials to obtain the appropriate permits. Hammes also led the evaluation and selection process to hire a qualified construction manager, architect, engineer, and other partners for the project.
The new hospital campus includes a remote central energy plant and an ambulance garage, which Baptist Memorial utilizes for its regional service. The new 217-bed hospital includes larger, family-friendly patient rooms with more privacy, an expanded emergency department, additional surgical suites and operating rooms, an enhanced ICU, and advanced technology and equipment. The new campus is also home to an attached medical office building, which houses medical practices and additional outpatient functions affiliated with the hospital. The new hospital has not only resulted in expanded care for the community but has also served as a recruitment tool for bringing more physicians to the area.
