Hammes Company breaks ground on Rehoboth Health Campus surgical hospital

Hammes Company has commenced work on a new state-of-the-art, short-stay surgical hospital in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Milwaukee, WI, July 24, 2019 – Hammes Company, the nation’s leading healthcare developer as ranked by Modern Healthcare’s Construction and Design Survey, has commenced work on a new state-of-the-art, short-stay surgical hospital in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Beebe Healthcare, located in Lewes, Delaware, engaged Hammes Company to provide strategic planning and project management for the new facility, which officially broke ground on May 15.

The new 132,000 square foot, 24-bed, four-story hospital will feature a surgical floor with robotic surgery capabilities and 24 medical/surgical beds, and future space for a dedicated women’s labor and delivery floor. The project is expected to be ready for occupancy in 2022.

“Our goal in this project is to bring quality healthcare services closer to Sussex County, which has been growing each year with more permanent year-round residents,” said Rick Schaffner, RN, interim CEO, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Beebe Healthcare. “Hammes Company has been a great partner for us and we’re pleased to have them managing the development of this project.”

“It’s a privilege to work alongside Beebe to help them realize their long-term vision for providing quality healthcare to the community now and into the future,” added Rex Holloway, regional vice present and partner at Hammes Company. “We anticipate an on-time, on-budget completion of both the Rehoboth and Millville facilities.”

Hammes initially engaged with Beebe Healthcare in late 2017 to validate the facilities program for the overall medical campus and was subsequently engaged to provide program management for the implementation of the system’s facilities expansion project. Hammes is also the lead project manager for Beebe Healthcare’s new freestanding emergency center and cancer center in Millville, which broke ground in November 2018.
