Background
Moffit Cancer Center engaged Hammes Healthcare to provide program management services for the development of a new, 20-acre property intended to accommodate Moffit’s inpatient surgical needs. The development includes a new inpatient surgical hospital, structured parking, central plant and opportunity for future on campus lodging. The new facility will connect to existing Moffitt outpatient and research facilities on the same campus.
Challenge
Given the significant goals Moffitt has for this program, creating realistic timelines and budgets is essential for keeping the project on track.
Solution
Hammes worked with Moffitt to establish a realistic budget for Phase One of construction and a plan for what will be added in Phase Two. Hammes also assisted Moffitt in planning for a possible third phase of development. This strategic plan was approved by the board, making for a smooth start to the project. Hammes’ onsite project team is leading a diverse group with representatives from four states. Construction began in 2020 with occupancy planned for the summer of 2023.
