Background
INTEGRIS Health is Oklahoma’s largest nonprofit community health system. In 2021, INTEGRIS announced plans to proceed with a new heart hospital and major ICU expansion and renovation of its existing INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. The new tower would be constructed on top of an existing parking structure and connect to both new and existing structures.
Challenge
As INTEGRIS embarked on the project, it became clear that its internal project management team did not have the capacity to execute this complex undertaking.
Solution
Hammes Healthcare was initially engaged in a staff augmentation capacity to provide leadership for the existing project management team. Ultimately, this transitioned to full project management support with multiple Hammes project management professionals engaged.
Enabling work for the project began in October 2021, with the construction of the new heart hospital tower commencing in March 2022. The new six-story tower and 10-story connector to the existing hospital include 64 ICU beds, five ORs (four CVORs and one hybrid OR), and seven minor procedure rooms, including five cath labs and two EP labs. The new tower was completed in March 2024 and the hospital renovation in 2025.
